The real fault at Boeing and the FAA

When designing their 737-Max aircraft as fast as they could, Boeing threw the century old book “How to make a safe aeroplane” out of the window. That was an excellent commercial decision. By doing so, they were able to get a modern plane to the market very fast. The orderbook, with around 5000 aircraft ordered, speaks for itself, it is a € 500 billion mega success.
For the first time in aviation history, in order to be so quick, Boeing made the unusual decision of designing a passenger aircraft that is intrinsically unstable in flight and then it added software that takes over to correct the flight when the instability manifests itself.
But when one sits down and just thinks about it, it is clear that such a designing departure is entirely unacceptable, even though this design was initially accepted by the FAA! This controlling instance is now grounding these planes after two crashes. But as the FAA  is not independent from Boeing as it should be, the fact that this basic flaw is unacceptable is still being pushed under the carpet. The financial consequences are huge and so is the pressure. Inevitably though, one day the truth will come out and the 737-Max, as long as it can only function with stabilising software, in my opinion should never fly again. Boeing will do all it can to let it fly but should not succeed. Maybe a world-wide pilot strike can get things right. Boeing deserve the most severe punishment by the market. The FAA needs a vicious clean up too.
