What Erdogan just might say soon.
He could give the following speech and the Western world would shudder.
quote.
I think it is time to speak about NATO.
My country, Turkey, has been a reliable member of NATO all along the
cold war. Our membership was important
as we held the southern flank of the Russian Communist Empire.
We trusted that NATO would deliver, if ever necessary, as was laid down in the agreement between all
members.
But right now, President Trump, without first consulting the NATO members, has gone alone by unilaterally negotiating with Russia, in an agreement for cease fire in Ukraine. The result is that we cannot trust NATO anymore like we did before. I, as Turkey’s President, must now consider for my country to step out of this alliance as it has become unreliable.
There is other change since the cold war too. The Middle East countries Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and also Egypt have increased their presence on the world scene with great maturity, and so has India. These countries are not member of a military security alliance like NATO was for so long. And one may argue ntey should. Now that the US has scuttled confidence in NATO, I think Turkey must consider the possibility of a new central-globe military alliance with, now, the middle East countries and India, possibly also Pakistan and including the European countries of course.
I will not make a quick decision, but I am starting careful international consultations on the subject.
Thank you.
